Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef, chicken, or turkey (lean meat preferred)
  • 1 medium carrot, diced (finely chopped)
  • 1 large potato or sweet potato, diced
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • water

Instructions

  • In a large pot over medium heat, cook the ground beef, chicken, or turkey until it is no longer pink. Do not drain the fat, as it provides healthy fats for your pet. If using leaner meats like chicken or turkey, consider adding a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil to boost the fat content.
  • Add the diced carrot and diced potato or sweet potato to the pot with the cooked meat (from Step 1). Stir to combine, making sure the vegetables are evenly coated with the juices and fat in the pot.
  • Pour in just enough water to cover the vegetables in the pot. Bring everything to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 20 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
  • Stir in the frozen peas and cook for a minute until they are heated through. I sometimes add a pinch of sea salt here to boost the flavor, though this is optional depending on your preference for your pet.
  • Allow the mixture to cool to a safe temperature before serving it to your pet. You can store any extra portions in the refrigerator or freezer.
